How not to answer a question on national radio

Say something like this: “Uh, hippies…Christians…crux…GAAAAACK.” At least that’s how I remember it, but otherwise today’s On Point interview went really well, and I was tickled to death to be on with Randall Balmer, whose book Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory: A Journey Into the Evangelical Subculture in America was a really big influence on me while I was writing Body Piercing.

I think the show will be podcast or something soon.

I enjoyed the interview on On Point. I grew up in an Assemblies of God minister’s home, listening to Petra, DeGarmo & Key, Russ Taff, Mylon LeFevre. Christian rock was fairly crappy back then, and, eventually, I gave up on it. In your interview last night, I heard about some new groups from you. I’ve ordered a newsboys cd; really like them. Thanks!

You talked about being a fan of Jesus. I describe myself that way too. He’s irresistible, once you understand what he’s about. You also said you couldn’t go as far as: Love God with all your heart, soul, strength. I just wanted to say that, if you’re married, you know what this is like. Would you say that you love your spouse with all your heart? I would say that I love my husband with all my heart. Do I love him and treat him with perfect love? Uh, NO. Far from it. It’s that way with Jesus. He’s captured my heart, he and his family; I love them with all that is in me. But I don’t have it in me to love perfectly, or to never fail them. Perfect love is his part, his job. Just respond to the love. Love back. Give back. Join him in his work of rescuing his world and his people. Check out Simply Christian by N. T. Wright.

God bless. Thanks for re-introducing me to Christian rock.

Thanks so much for your comment, Christina, and for the insight into your faith. I’ve been meaning to put together a list of Christian rock that I really like for the curious, and this might be just the shove I need!
